Description
Personal support workers help children and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who receive Medicaid in-home services through the Office of Developmental Disabilities Services. To qualify to be a personal support worker, an individual must be 18 years old or older; pass a background check; and legally be able to work in the United States. The enrollment process begins by visiting a local Community Developmental Disabilities Program (CDDP) or brokerage to complete the required paperwork and submit a background check. You will also need to participate in a mandatory orientation available online.

How to Apply
- Visit a local Community Developmental Disabilities Program (CDDP) or brokerage to apply to be a personal support worker.
- Fill out an enrollment packet.
- Pass a background check and other state/federal checks.
- Attend mandatory, online new worker orientation for personal support workers.
- Receive a state issued provider number once you meet all the enrollment criteria.
- Attend eXPRS training.
- Complete your profile on the Registry to find work.
- Before you start working for an employer, complete the PPL employee packet; sign a service agreement; and ensure there is a service period authorization in eXPRS.
- Attend OHCC trainings and work towards professional development certification.
- Renew your credential every two years by passing a new background check and signing a new provider enrollment agreement.
