Yes. Working in home care makes a real difference. You help people by providing the support they need in their lives and homes. You are part of building stronger, more caring communities.
How much do home-care professionals earn?
Home-care professionals hired by people receiving state-funded services earn $20/hour to start. You can earn increases based on experience and trainings. Some certifications and trainings are available as soon as you start.

What benefits are available? Who gets them?
After working 20 to 40 hours per month for a few months in a row, you can receive benefits such as paid time off and health insurance. All home-care professionals are automatically enrolled in the Oregon Saves retirement program. Is this a flexible job? Can I pick who I work for and my schedule?
Yes! The home-care profession supports a range of people, needs, and circumstances. You can decide which jobs you take based on when you want to work, full-time or part-time. Your paycheck will come through the state of Oregon, but the person you work for will be your employer. You will work with them to develop a schedule that works for both of you.
Can I build a career in home care?
Yes! Keep growing as a home-care professional with many free training opportunities. New certifications and advancement opportunities let you build skills and increase pay. When you finish some trainings and certifications, you are eligible for a pay increase. You can ask for an interpreter or for training information in your language.
Do home-care workers receive support and protection on the job?
You can get training, coaching, and support to help you build skills and know how to handle things that come up in your work. State case managers can help you resolve issues that come up on the job. If you get hurt, you are covered through workers’ compensation insurance.
Are other languages valued in this profession? Do I need to speak English to apply?
